So the team at Sony Santa Monica Studio could've extended the story, but instead the decision was made to condense it to its core focal point, that being the relationship between Kratos and Atreus. In an interview with Kaptain Kuba on YouTube, Cory Barlog discussed why the story of Kratos and Atreus would be told over just two installments and not a trilogy or more. Set in the realm of Greek mythology, God of War III for the last time puts Kratos at the center of the carnage and destruction as he seeks revenge against the. In the end of GoW 4, he seems to let go some of that guilt and shame, but this could only mean that he doesn't hide his deeds anymore. In God of War 4, he even admits he will always be a monster. Sure, he released Hope to the world (really want to see what happened to that), but that was not his main goal. I'm not going to state my opinion on here that should he be forgiven for his deeds.
